Welcome to the online presence of the Syracuse Astronomical Society! The SAS website is used as an announcement board for observing by the society, a place to find interesting stories and websites relevant to the society and its members, and a point of contact for members and the general public.

Directions (Darling Hill and Ferrante Hall)

These are the directions to The Darling Hill Observatory where we observe in the Spring, Summer and Fall according to our schedule. We also host many public viewing nights during the season according to our public viewing schedule. During the cold Winter Months we hold our meetings at Ferrante Hall at Onondaga Community College according to our meeting schedule.

Darling Hill Observatory

Take Route 81 to EXIT 14 (Tully)
-make a left at the end of the exit ramp
-make a right at the stop sign and go WEST on Route 80

Travel about 3.3 miles to VESPER
-turn LEFT onto STRONG RD
-follow it, winding up the hill, for
about 1.4 (winding) miles

Look for an open gate on the right
with a SAS OBSERVATORY sign

Turn right and drive up the hill, park in the meadow, and join in the observing!


IF IT IS DARK, PLEASE

Remember to turn off your headlights
and only use your parking lights!

Ferrante Hall, OCC

Take West Seneca Turnpike (RT 175) from Route 81 and follow it until you see the college main entrance on the right

or

From Camillus and Fairmont, take Onondaga Road (RT 173) to the BACK entrance of the college

Follow either set of arrows on the map below.

Ferrante Hall is marked. Park in the lot marked X and go in through the door pointed to by the arrow.

At the end of the hall is an elevator.
-Take it to the 3rd Floor
-Walk straight ahead then
-Around the corner to Room 285.

NOTE: Although the entrance looks like a service entrance, a double door with no windows, YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!
