First Light With the New DHO Telescope

A proposal passed, that allowed the Cave 16″ Newtonian telescope to be replaced with a telescope with more advanced features. The new telescope is a Celestron C14, which came with new imaging equipment and a new mount. This would allow members to use the telescope to switch between imaging and visual observations. The first photo taken was on Sunday night by John Rush and Jeff Higgins. It’s of the Crescent Nebula, located in the constellation Cygnus. Public Session 10/6 Postponed

Tonights Public Session is postponed to Saturday Oct 7th, due to expected clouds and rain. The forecast has improved slightly for Saturday night but still maybe clouded out so an official announcement will be made tomorrow if the session will be held.

10/8 Observing session is on!

SAS Members, Our observing session scheduled for tonight, 10/8, is on! We’ll have to contend with some cloud cover early, but it should clear out from about 9:00 on. It’ll be chilly in the mid-60’s and very humid tonight, so if you’re coming, come prepared. See you on the hill!
